2009 USAWKF National Wushu Team Selection Criteria (Taolu)

 

I.  Description

Forward
This is a biennial, high-caliber, wushu competition to select the 2009 U. S. National Wushu Team. During the Trials, A, B and C teams will be selected.  Team A will be composed of ten athletes (5 men & 5 women), who will represent the US and compete in the upcoming 10th World Wushu Championships to be held in Toronto, Canada in October of 2009.  The athletes will serve as members of the US National Wushu Team for a period of two years (2009-2011). The B and C team members will serve as alternate members.
 
The Team Trials will also be a great opportunity for wushu athletes to gain national level competition experience.

Purpose
The purpose of this Team Trials is to select the highest level and best combination of wushu athletes, maximizing representation of all the different categories, and to obtain the best results in the upcoming World Championships.


II.  General Information

Date: June 20 to June 21, 2009.

Place: De Anza College Main Gym, Cupertino, California.

Qualifications for Athletes:
Athletes must be: a) a citizen of the United States of America; b) in good health; c) member of good standing of the USAWKF; d) if selected, must be committed to compete at the 10th World Championships in Canada in October of 2009.

Categories:
1)   Changquan
2)   Dao+Gun (must sign up for both events)
3)   Jian+qiang (must sign up for both events)
4)   Nanquan/Nandao/Nangun (at least two events)
5)   Taijiquan/Taijijian (must sign up for both events)
 
Rules:
1)   2005 IWUF Rules for International Wushu Taolu Competition applies.
2) For 2009 USAWKF Team Trials the C and D level difficulties will be awarded points as B level difficulties. C and D level difficulties will still be judged according to their level even though the points awarded will only be at the B level.
3) Music: Music is only required for Taijiquan and Taijijian.
4) Forms nandu (difficulty movements) requirements will be based on IWUF rules for 2009 World Wushu Championships in Canada. The rules will be posted on this site upon release by the IWUF.

The athlete with the highest score from each event will be in the A-Team.

1) A-Team competitors must have an average score of 8.8 or higher for the category or categories by which they are qualifying for the team.

2) If the average score of the winner is below 8.8, he/she can be in the A-Team if there is no higher average score from the B-Team, otherwise, the next highest average score in B-Team in any event will replace the winner and he/she will degrade to B-Team of that category, and the 2nd place competitor will degrade to C-Team, and so on.

3) If an A-Team competitor wins two events, for the event with the lower average score, he/she will be replaced by the next highest B-Team member in that event.  The next highest C-Team member will move up to B-Team, and so on.

The USAWKF reserves the discretionary right to make final decisions on team composition (including changes) in the best interest of US representation at the 10th World Championships in Canada.


IV.   National Ranking:

Changquan, Daoshu, Gunshu, Jianshu, Qiangshu 
Top Fifteen athletes from each event will receive USAWKF certificates of ranking.

Nanquan, Nandao, Nangun
Top Ten athletes from each event will receive USAWKF certificates of ranking.

Taijiquan, Taijijian
Top Six athletes from each event will receive USAWKF certificates of ranking.
*In the case where the total number of contestants for an event is less than the number of proposed certified rankings, the number of certified rankings will be two less than the number of contestants.


V. Registration and Fees

1. Registration will be from April 18, 2009 to May 29, 2009.
2. Competitors must be US citizens and current USAWKF members in good standing.
3. Each athlete can register multiple event categories.

VII. Judges

Judges will be appointed by USAWKF.


VIII. National Judge Training Course

Instructed by world-renowned Wushu judge authorities through a systemized curriculum in Wushu techniques, theories, and scoring rules, the one week learning and practice session will equip you with the knowledge and skills required of a Wushu judge. After passing the exit examination, you will receive a national Wushu judge certificate, which qualifies you to judge at national Wushu competitions as well as U.S. Wushu Team Trials.

Qualification Requirements & Fees (must meet all qualifications to be accepted)

(1) Applicant must be a member of USAWKF in good standing.
(2) Applicant must be between 25 and 65 years of age, inclusive.
(3a) Applicant must be an instructor, coach or assistant at a Wushu school.
(Reference from school owner required), or be recommended by head coach. Or,
(3b) A third-place or better finish at an advanced event at a USAWKF- and/or
USA National Tai Chi Chuan Federation (USANTCCF)-recognized or sanctioned national or international tournament (attach proof of result(s)). Or,
(3c) Been a judge of competitions at USAWKF-and/or USANTCCF - recognized or sanctioned national or international tournament (attach proof of such).
(4) Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.

June 15-19, 2009 (Cupertino, and Li's Wushu Academy) Classes
June 20, 2009 (De Anza College) 7:30 am-6:00 pm (Judge Internship)
June 21, 2009 (De Anza College) 9:00 am-1:00 pm (Judge Internship)

Fees:
The cost for the training course is $480 per person, with an additional $180 for class materials and the certificate. Food and lodging are not included.

 

IX. Performance

Masters Demonstration:
There will be world-renowned Wushu masters, distinguished China Wushu Team athletes, distinguished national Wushu masters, and famous US Wushu Team athletes to perform in a Masters' demonstration on the evening of June 20, 2009 at De Anza College Gym.
