On May 12, 2008, a massive earthquake, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale, struck Sichuan province in southwestern China. This disaster caused almost 70,000 deaths and untold suffering. Following the quake, USAWKF began to collect donations from members to provide funds for relief and recovery efforts in Sichuan.
Our members and schools responded favorably and generously by donating over $10,000 by August 10, 2008. On August 12th, 2008, USAWKF President Anthony Goh presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to the Consul General Wu Dongmei of the Chinese Embassy. By November 30, 2008 USAWKF had collected a total of $11,511. The remaining money was sent to the Chinese Embassy on Dec. 31, 2008.
USAWKF is honored to announce the names of those members who have donated to victims of the earthquake. We are very grateful and deeply moved by the generosity and kindness shown by those who have donated. These members have joined with people from all across the world to reach out a helping hand to the weakest and most vulnerable among us.
